Parashat Ki Tavo - September 5

(Just a reminder that I will post to both the Facebook group and this website a recommended craft that loosely parallels some of that week’s themes. [If you have ideas for the craft – please let me know!] FYI - my versions will be geared towards the Shabbat B’Yachad and preschool set and will use art materials relatively easily found. That said, I want the whole community involved …. so use this just as a jumping off point to make anything you are inspired to do, including “adult” projects. Finally, a craft circle only works if it is a group effort so please share! Post pictures of your art to this thread in the comments. )

Parashat Ki Tavo: Continuing his last speech, Moses instructs the Israelites regarding the first fruit offering.. For this week (and next, because it's a BIG project), we made a 7 new fruits/species paper quilt. The seven species are wheat, barley, grape, fig, pomegranates, olive (oil), and date (honey). Step one was making our own 7 species "fabric" by printing out patterns from vector stock online and coloring it with a paint wash. Then we cut out triangles to position into squares to make quilting squares. Once our squares were glued together, we then designed our quilts and glued them to a backing (in our case chart paper).

Looking forward to seeing your creativity.

Alex
